Ipe is a type of hardwood that can withstand harsh weather such as extreme heat and dryness or extreme humidity and rain, due to its provenance from the tropics. It has a class “A” fire rating which is the same as concrete and steel. Ipe has high concentrations of tannic acid, which makes it resistant to rot, insects, and fungi.
